Nicola Hadfield
Blue-Chip Projects
Progressive property developers who want
to maximise the commercial opportunities they offer are increasingly
aware that Nicola Hadfield design & marketing, Consulting provides
them with a rare cutting edge.
However skilled the architect, the spaces created within the bricks
and mortar require synergy, style and public appeal, and this is where
the Nicola Hadfield touch is proving so effective.
Property developers, private individuals, both in South Africa and
internationally, have already used her creative flair, marketing
skills and business acumen to their advantage. This is because she has
an enviable ability to identify the new and the unconventional,
setting trends rather than following them, and using them to attract
public attention on a sustainable basis – with the emphasis on
sustainable.
Nicola is one of South Africa’s most dynamic, high-profile,
multi-award-winning businesswomen. Besides being an interior designer,
she founded the prestigious interior design and décor exhibition
Decorex SA in 1994 and won the US-based Star Group’s 15 Leading Women
Entrepreneurs of the World in 2003.
She loves the challenge of changing perspectives in a way that enables
clients’ projects to reach their full potential.
Design Quarter
- Johannesburg’s newest retail
playground is the place to go for your décor and design fix.
Fourways used to be all
smallholdings and the odd country restaurant, but this Jo’burg suburb
is now a growing maze of cluster homes. With so many new homemakers
in the area, a shopping complex devoted to design and décor seems
likely to be an excellent addition to the neighborhood. Enter Design
Quarter – a one stop retail solution.

Original in both
approach and architecture, part of the centre if built around a large
open-air piazza and the remainder of the naturally lit steel, glass
and stone building comprises a series of double-volume stores spread
across three floors.
Mr Price Home can only
be described as a megastore of affordable homeware – it stocks
everything from batik scatter cushions to brilliantly produced
reproduction furniture. Across the square, Woolworth’s features an
awesome noodle bar, extensive homeware section and a furniture
selection. Another notable member of the design gathering is the
first-of-its-kind Plascon Living Concepts showroom, which offers a
complete service with regard to all things paint- and colour related,
including access to Plascon Visualiser software, double storey, wall
mounted colour palates and mood boxes to inspire creativity.

At night, the centre
downs décor tools and dons its entertaining hat – Design Quarter’s
relaxed alfresco eating area is set to become one of Jo’burg’s most
happening nightspots. Kitchen Bar is an exquisitively appointed bar
and restaurant, and other restaurants to look forward to are the
much-anticipated Mythos and the ever-popular Primi Piatti and Tribes.
With all this on their doorsteps, natives of Fourway may never need to
brave the notorious William Nicol traffic over the highway again!
